WHO IS … Ramata Sy ?

For sure I am particularly fond of literature, greatly fascinated by criminology and totally addicted to the written press. I admire theatre, I would have loved to live in an American television series, I love everything that has to do with pop-culture, I am really passionate about History, and New-York City is my only reason to be. All of these things I particularly appreciate ingrained in me and characterizes me most... But in the end, I chose cinema because I love it more than anything else. Why? Because as far as I am concerned, cinema is a mixture of emotions, words/thoughts, meetings and stories which makes up the things of life. Cinema is at once the representation of the world, my passion, a hope in this mad world, my "other" culture, all the arts brought together, but first of all cinema is now a part of me.

For sure, I stumbled upon cinema and yet I would never leave it.

My name is Ramata. I am 26-years-old and currently studying screenwriting in my second year at La FEMIS.

Ramata Sy accepted to answer to the international survey conducted by the Forum d’Avignon among 100 personalities of the world of culture about the “reasons to hope for culture”:

What is your reason to hope?

Culture, necessity for everyone, is the first source of learning and education to the world. It makes us learn, observe, think, without any predetermined framework. But the most important is that culture is an opening to the world.

Which initiative, work, personality embodies the best your reason to hope?

Those who embody the best the future of culture are the young people of my generation who have never been so reactive, determined and creative. We have never been so involved in culture. We are now the actors of society and we create today’s world!
