THIS WEEK’S CULTURAL START-UP : ARTSPER

Next-up on our online cultural entrepreneur series, the Forum d’Avignon would like to introduce: Artsper first website for the sale of contemporary artworks offered in partnership with art galleries

What is your company’s objective?

Artsper is first website for the sale of contemporary artworks offered in partnership with more than 300 art galleries. Artsper thus give the possibility for beginners and amateurs to find a contemporary art piece that pleases them, within a catalogue of approximately 10,000 pieces including paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures…

What challenges do you face in your development?

At the moment, Artsper is expanding internationally and one of the biggest challenges we face is to succeed in segmenting our art offering in function of our different targeted markets. Our second big reflection is on how to continuously come up with new functionalities for our partner galleries so as to offer them a unique opportunity to present themselves on the internet.

What does it mean to be a cultural entrepreneur?

The role of the cultural entrepreneur is to work for the evolution of a cultural product or a service, within a ‘climate’ that respects and understands the work environment around him/her. Quite often, the cultural entrepreneur seeks to adapt a product or a cultural service, by bringing it innovations from scientific, economic or technological domains. To summarize, the cultural entrepreneur must put in place an innovative project, all the while working with some charm and seduction. Because culture is a complex field, oscillating between ephemeral fashions and near-eternal structures.
