Cartooning for peace attends the International Meetings of the Forum d’Avignon

Kofi Annan , Nobel Peace Prize and former Secretary General of the UN , and Plantu, cartoonist for le Monde and l’Express, gathered on 16 October 2006 at the UN headquarters in New York , twelve of the greatest caricaturists of the world around a conference entitled "Unlearning Intolerance". From this meeting came the initiative Cartooning for Peace / Dessins pour la paix, to promote better understanding and mutual respect between people of different cultures or beliefs using newspaper cartoons as a means of expression of a universal language. Since its launch in 2006, Cartooning for Peace has organized several exhibitions of drawings and press conferences throughout the world. 108 artists from 42 different countries are currently members of the network.

As in previous years, the Forum d'Avignon is very pleased to welcome the association Cartooning for Peace, on the occasion of the International Meetings, from 21 to 23 November at the Palais des Papes. Last year were already there Nadia Khiari, Liza Donnelly, Michel Kichka, Dilem, Juls, among others.

Seven cartoonists and members of the network of Cartooning for Peace from around the world (Israel, Palestinian Territories, Venezuela, Cuba , Tunisia, France , etc. . ) will this year participate to the International Meetings to sketch live sessions and add to the debate a poetic and sometimes sarcastic look .

The Forum d'Avignon was sketched in 2009 by Plantu alone. Since 2010, however, it is the whole team Cartooning for Peace and several volunteer artists who participate in the adventure.

That’s why the Forum’s team wanted to profit this announcement to warmly thank the Cartooning for Peace association for its support, help and availability.

And waiting for the International Meetings, be sure you come each Monday to our website to discover the drawings of our cartoonists with the “drawing of the week”.
