Who is Patrick Zelnik ?

Patrick Zelnik is a French music senior executive who holds a Masters in Economics and graduated from Sciences Po and Dauphine University. 

He started his career in the music industry at Polydor (1973-1980) as International Marketing Director. In 1977, he met Richard Branson with whom he created the first European branch of Virgin Records in 1980: Virgin France and became President of Virgin’s retail branch in 1988. 

In 1997, he set-up his own production, distribution and publishing company for cultural products, Naïve. Naïve, a multicultural and multimedia company diversified itself creating Naïve Books in 2004, Naïve Vision in 2005 (DVD production) andnaive.fr

At the same time Patrick Zelnik had and has different roles in professional organizations such as President of SNEP (The National Trade Association of Phonographic Producers) (1990-92 and 1994-97), and of UPFI (French Independent Phonographic Producers’ Association) from 2000 to 2004. He has been at the head of Impala (Association of Independent Music Companies) since 2006, and member of the supervisory board of Actes Sud, one of the leading independent book publishers. 

Since 2008 Patrick Zelnik has been president of the Gaité Lyrique which opened in march 2011. 

On September 3rd, 2009, Nicolas Sarkozy, French President of the Republic and Frederic Mitterrand, Minister of Culture and Communication, appointed Patrick Zelnik president of mission “Creation & Internet”, in collaboration with Jacques Toubon and Guillaume Cerutti – which was charged with defining concrete measures to improve the legal offer of cultural goods on Internet and the remuneration of artists, producers and cultural industries including books, films, and audiovisual activities.
