Olivier Poivre d’Arvor

Ambassador in charge of cultural attractiveness, writer, France

Trained in philosophy, the founder of a theatre company, a literary counsellor in publishing, and a journalist, Olivier Poivre d’Arvor then worked for different projects abroad between 1987 and 1999: Laureate of « Villa Médicis hors les murs » in the United States, Director of the French cultural centre of Alexandria, Director of the French Institute of Prague, Director of the French Institute of the United Kingdom, and Cultural counsellor of the French Embassy in London.

From 1999 to 2010, he ran the French association for artistic action (AFAA), which became Culturesfrance in 2006, then the French Institute. In 2007, he joined the Quai d’Orsay as minister plenipotentiary.

Named in 2010 Director of France Culture, he ran the program channel until September 2015. Then, he is named ambassador in charge of French cultural attractiveness and launched for this occasion the Grand Tour (january-july 2016).

In 2005, he launched in Toulouse the first edition of the Marathon des mots, a festival at the intersection between word and text, which is now the second literary meeting in France in terms of attendance.

Since 2014, he has been the President of the Musée national de la Marine.

Novelist and essayist, Olivier Poivre d'Arvor has published numerous books.
