Who is José-Manuel Gonçalvès?

José Manuel Gonçalvès received his training at the School of High Studies in Social Practice (Diploma of Advanced Studies in Social Practices) that he completed with a Master’s degree (D.E.S.S) in cultural management in the early 1990’s in Lyon.

He began his career in Roanne in 1981 as a sports trainer. In 1983, the city of Roanne gave him the opportunity to rehabilitate a brownfield. In 1991, the city of Les Ulis with the Orsay campus sought to relaunch its new theater and cinemas, and entrusted the management to José-Manuel.

1997 is the year when he joined the A.F.A.A (now the ‘Institut français’). He was then in charge of consulting and coaching all the embassies for the development of French culture abroad.

In 2000, he won the leadership of the Ferme du Buisson, Scène nationale de Marne la Vallée, an art and research cinema center.

Since 2010 he has been Director of the PARIS-CENTQUATRE, an artistic and cultural establishment held by the city of Paris. He also designed and built the 2014 and 2015 editions of the ’Nuit Blanche’ in Paris.

Concurrently with this professional career, he has been developing since 1997 a consultant work designed for local and international planning agencies.

Since June 2015, he has been Co-director of the artistic and cultural project of the Grand Paris Express. The cluster that he has formed with different partners is in charge for the next eight years of the programming, the implementation and the animation of the cultural project developed by the Société du Grand Paris.
