The rules of the game

The buyout of the Huffington Post by AOL in 2011 reminded that the most popular websites are the ones which adapt their contents to the rules of the Internet. Is it mandatory to think and create according to the rules prescribed by search engines, social networks, streaming websites, with playlists shared between friends, e-commerce websites, websites of music downloading as iTunes to exist for the Internet users? Are there going to be monopolies in term of prescription on the Internet, controlled by technical intermediaries?
