Culture is future » Innovation and digital

Next-up on our online cultural entrepreneur series, the Forum d’Avignon would like to introduce: Rendez-vous, a digital concierge for photography.

What is your company’s objective?

RendezVous ( is a web-app that recommends art exhibitions in the Paris area. The user first defines his artistic tastes by choosing the art he likes among a selection of images. He then gets a series of custom recommendations for exhibitions sorted according to his artistic profile. Our main goal is to ease the process of searching for cultural activities, by offering our users a cultural agenda that is constantly renewed : this way they can make new discoveries and organize their visits, alone or together with friends.

What challenges do you face in your development?

We are currently working on our algorithm with an engineer from Polytechnique who is passionate about art. Our goal is to reach 80 to 90% of user satisfaction on the first recommendations. We’re already at 70% after our first tests during Futur en Seine. The next step will consist in looking for partnerships with museums, companies and cultural spaces that wish to reach directly the people who are more likely to be interested by what they have to offer. We already have a partnership with Fnac Spectacles, and we are in touch with the RMN (National Museums Reunion) in order to create bridges between RendezVous and the digital structures of these institutions.

What does it mean to be a cultural entrepreneur?

It means being a culture agitator. We want to shake things up, and offer an alternative to the traditional ways of discovering and promoting temporary exhibitions. Entrepreneurship has taught us to question our certainties and to look for new ways to tackle the issues within a domain as wide as culture. The next step is to expand our recommendations to other arts (cinema, theatre, concerts) and help emerging artists to put in light their creations.

Rendez-vous' founders: François and Yann Barouch.
