Next-up on our online cultural entrepreneur series, the Forum d’Avignon would like to introduce: la Fabrique de la danse, a start-up which trains and guide choreographers to address difficulties proper to the sector’s mutations
What is your company’s objective?
La Fabrique de la Danse trains and guide choreographers to address difficulties proper to the sector’s mutations, which weaken the quality and the rise of choreographic creation. Thanks to an incubation program– all the year long- we give them tools and knowledge on an artistic but also technic and administrative level. Choreographers benefit from an individual tutorial related to their challenges and they also have the opportunity to experiment their creation on semi-professional dancers. In Parallel to this incubation program, La Fabrique de la Danse offers trainings à la carte for performing arts’ professionals.
What is more La Fabrique de la Danse elaborates programs linking dance and innovation like the ‘choreographic heritage conservation and transmission program’.
In the long run our project is to gather all these supplies in one unique place with all what is necessary to artists to work, create and experiment- dance studio, audiovisual studio, medical place.
What challenges do you face in your development?
Our first challenge is to create an innovative business model, to enable our future establishment to be financially independant. In order to do so we have to convince banks, real estate invertors, foundations of the viability of our project.
Moreover la Fabrique de la Danse is today shortlisted for the price Réinventer Paris, the Ville de Paris’ call for innovative urban: our second challenge is to gain it!
What does it mean to be a cultural entrepreneur?
It means succeeding in the utopic marriage between art and economy. it means inventing new functioning models which integrate the fact that art produces no ‘profit’ but an inestimable well-being, which triggers services exchanges, solidarity, an other kind of wealth. We must work in that basis.
