05.28.2013 aims to be 1st audiovisual portal about dance

Created by the Maison de la Danse in Lyon, the website aims at a wide public, professional as amateurs.  The tale of their ambitions and their beginigs.

The Maison de la Danse in Lyon, in partnership with the Centre National de la Danse de Pantin, created in January 2011, the first audiovisual and digital data base specific to dance's world :  This project is supported by the BNP Paribas Foundation, and was subsidized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Communication.

This first online video library filled a lack. Many organizations had already proposed this service, such as « Dance in video », by the University Library, of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. But they required a previous free or charged registration. Here, gives this data easy to reach, online and for free to the wide public, to the dance, picture and education professionals.

Besides news, files the choreographic resources in the catalogue, by date, author, or title, in French or in English. Concerning the dance professionals, it's a formidable communication's tool. It goes over the lack of visibility that offered websites such as Youtube, DailyMotion or Vimeo.

In the “channel” area, professionals upload their own collection (the Théâtre National de Chaillot's Channel). The “themas” space, invented for teachers, prepares tools (filmed lessons, conferences) to broadcast in their e-Learning environment.

It's a huge project that very expected in this sector. Among the suggested works, its diversity is very appreciated, by its number and by its quality. Nevertheless, full-length videos are seldom founded. And, contrary to the Arte Live Website, it's impossible to accede to live performances, or performances being represented. provides memory, diffusion and mediations' functions for dance. This project engraves the Maison de la Danse into the digital era, after  30 years' of history. It strengthens the Lyon's place, actual dance's capital, in France and in Europe.
