The role of the Advisory Board is to enlighten and propose guidelines for the themes of the Forum d’Avignon Presided by Christian de Boissieu, the Advisory Board identifies and then suggests to the governing board the themes of the Forum d’Avignon. Christian de Boissieu
Professor Christian de Boissieu is currently Chairman of the Conseil d’Analyse Economique (Council of Economic Analysis) attached to the French Prime Minister. This Council advises the Prime Minister and the Government on economic and social issues. Christian de Boissieu is also Professor at the University of Paris I (Panthéon – Sorbonne). He taught at the College of Europe (Bruges). Consultant to the World Bank, the European Commission and the European Parliament, he is also economic adviser to the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is honorary President of the French Finance Association. He is Member of the Scientific Committee of AREVA (France), of the Advisory Board of Ernst & Young (France) and of the International Advisory Board of Finmeccanica (Italy). In 2007 – 2008, he was appointed member of the Attali Commission. In 2009, he was appointed member of the “Great Loan” Commission. He has published many books and articles in the field of monetary, banking and financial analysis and economic policy. He is a regular columnist for newspapers in France and abroad. Professor de Boissieu received his Ph.D in economics in 1973 (University of Paris). He was post-doctoral fellow at Northwestern University and Harvard University, and visiting scholar at the University of Minnesota and at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Washington D.C). He is also Commander of the “Légion d’honneur” and has been granted decorations by several foreign countries.
Christine Albanel
Christine Albanel is the Executive Vice President, Communication, Philanthropy, Content Strategy of Orange. A modern languages graduate and a State Counselor, she was Minister of Culture and Communication from May 2007 to June 2009. From 2003 to 2007 she was President of the Etablissement Public de Versailles in charge of the Versailles heritage site. She began her career as a press attaché to the Office of the President of France between 1979 and 1981 then as head of mission for the Director of Information and Communications for the City of Paris from 1982 to 1986. After two years in the Prime Minister’s office (1986-1988) she continued her career as Deputy Director in the Office of the Mayor of Paris, then, from 1995 to 2000, was Education and Culture Advisor to the President of the Republic. She was appointed State Counselor in 2000.
Arjun Appadurai
Arjun Appadurai is currently Goddard Professor of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University (NYU). He is also Tata Chair Professor in the Tata School of Social Sciences (Mumbai) and Senior Research Partner at the Max-Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Gottingen (Germany). He has held Chairs at Yale University, The University of Chicago, The New School and The University of Pennsylvania and has served as Advisor to UNESCO, The World Bank, UNDP, The Ford Foundation and many other international organizations. He is a member of the Academic Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has published extensively on globalization, media and the culture industries.
Philippe Bélaval
State Counselor, born in 1955 in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), Philippe Bélaval has a master degree in public Law and graduated from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Toulouse. He studied at the Ecole nationale d’Administration. Philippe Bélaval was managing director of the Opéra de Paris (1990-1992), managing director of the National Library of France(1994-1998), director of the French National Archives (1998-2000), Ministery of Culture and Communication. Then, he has been the president of the Administrative courts of appeal of Bordeaux (2001-2004) and Versailles (2004-2008). He has been Chairman of the Board of the French National Institut of Heritage and head of the permanent mission on the administrative jurisdictions inspection since 2008 and President of the Council of the literary and artistic property since 2009.
Elie Cohen
Pr. Elie Cohen is a Research Director at France's national scientific research center (CNRS). Since 2007, he is a member of the Council of Economic Analysis. He is a professor of economics at the Paris Institute for Political Studies and a member of the Council of economic Analysis (CAE-Prime Minister). He is doctor in Political Economy. Opposed to the liberal idea of the auto-regulation of financial markets, he encourages the development of economic regulation. Pr Elie Cohen's specialist expertise spans industrial economics, public economics, and International economics. His analyses are also focusing on issues such as financial regulation in a European and international context.
Sylvie Forbin
Sylvie Forbin is foreign affairs advisor, institutional and European affairs executive Director of Vivendi. She formerly was president of the media group at the EU (French presidency) and director of Eureka Audiovisual in Brussels. She received the Chevalier de « Ordre National du Mérite » in 2006.
Amit Khanna
Amit Khanna is the Chairman of Reliance Entertainment, Director of Reliance BIG TV & Reliance MediaWorks Ltd., a part of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group.
He started his film career as an Executive Producer with Actor – Producer, Dev Anand's Nav Ketan in 1971. He has written lyrics for 400 film & non-film songs including many all-time hits as well as a dozen feature film scripts which include award winning films like Saaransh. He also directed India’s first music video with Nazia & Zoeb Hassan in 1984. He pioneered Business News on Indian Television. In 1980, he produced his first feature film Man Pasand. In the Eighties, he wrote and directed critically acclaimed films Sheeshay ka Ghar and Shesh and several documentaries. One of the first independent Producers of TV programming in India, Amit Khanna, set up PLUS CHANNEL in 1990, India's first entertainment conglomerate where he produced 10 feature films, over 3000 hours of original TV programming and over 1000 music albums in various genres and languages.
Amit Khanna has been involved with media since school. He has worked in Theatre, Radio, Television, Journalism, Films and new Media. He is a pioneer in the Converged Media space.
He writes extensively on Media in various magazines and newspapers including Times of India, Hindustan Times, Economic Times, DNA & Business Standard and several websites
He is a Chairman - Convergence Committee of FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). He is a Member – Prime Minister’s Committee on Information, Communication & Entertainment (ICE), and Member - CII’s Entertainment & Media Committee. He is the President – Earth Communications Office (an Environment - NGO). He was the President - All India Film Producers Council, Film & Television Producers Guild of India Ltd., for three terms and Vice President of Association of Motion Picture & TV Program Producers for 17 years.
He has been on the Governing Councils of the Film Institutes in both Pune & Kolkatta. He was the first Indian to serve on the international Emmy’s Jury. He has also been on the Jury of film festivals. Besides serving on various International, Government and Trade organizations and Institutions, he has won several awards including three national awards for films.
Thomas Paris
Thomas Paris is a researcher at the CNRS, HEC and Ecole Polytechnique, specialized in management and lecturer at the Ecole Polytechnique. Former student of the Ecole Polytechnique, he graduated with a Ph. D. in Human and social Sciences, option management (1999). He has been working for 15 years creative industries (cinema and media, fashion, music, publishing, advertising, design, haute cuisine…), their economy and organizational models. He also studies the creation and management of innovation, in partnership with firms. As an author, he published essays on copyright, on cultural diversity, on cinema and broadcasting in an era of convergence. He is also manager of the “Création” seminary at the Ecole de Paris du management (Paris school of management) and published two novels (Buchet-Chastel).
Pierre Sellal
Pierre Sellal is a French diplomat, former permanent representative of France at the European Commission. He graduated from the ENA and has been in charge of the Cabinet of the Foreign Affairs Minister Hubert Védrine between 1997 and 2002. As a permanent representative, he played a key role during the French Presidency of the EU in 2008. Since April 2009, he is general secretary of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Celestino Spada
Celestino Spada works for the Italian public service Radio and Television (RAI) since 1968 as cultural programs producer and, 1991-1999, as responsible of the researches on programs quality and editor of cultural studies. He edited in Italy Raymond Williams’ Technology and Cultural Form and did researches on cultural economy as well as on institutional and economic aspects of the television industry in Italy, teaching in Florence-Cesare Alfieri and Roma-La Sapienza Universities. He also is a member of the Italian Association of Cultural Economy and vice-director and chief editor of the Italian review Economia della cultura.
Ezra Suleiman
Graduated of Harvard and Columbia Universities, Ezra Suleiman is Professor of political science at Princeton University. He wrote several books, translatd in frecnh, the last being Frenc Schizophrenia (Grasset 2008). He taught and worked in many European universities and research institutes. He regularly contributes to the publicaiton of articles in the French and International Press, and is a member of many publishing committees such as the one of the French review La Revue des Deux Mondes He is a member of the Audit Committee of AXA Financial Inc., as well as a member of the Audit Committee of AXA Group and a member of the Selection, Ethics, Governance and Human Resources Committees of AXA Group. He is currently at Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study and at the Collegio Carlo Alberto (University of Turin).
Kjetil Tredal Thorsen
Kjetil Thorsen Trædal is an architect. After several years in Germany and in the UK, he studied Architecture in Graz, Austria. He received many prizes for his public realizations in Europe and in the World (Museum for Contemporary Art Lillehammer, Norway or the Alexandria Library). Since 2004, Kjetil Thorsen Trædal teaches at the Experimental Architecture Institute in Innsbruck.
Carlo d'Asaro Biondo
Carlo d’Asaro Biondo, President Operations Southern Eastern Europe, Middle East Africa, Google. Since September 2009, Carlo d’Asaro Biondo manages the activities of Google in Southern and Eastern Europe, in Middle East and in Africa. He started his carrier as a consultant at KPMG and, 12 years later, he became Managing Director in France for this advisory group. In late 2001, he joined Unisys as Vice President and Managing Director of Communication and Media activities. In February 2004, he became Senior Vice President in charge of telecommunication at AOL Europe. Five months later, he was appointed Managing Director of AOL France, then, after three years, President of AOL Europe. Carlo became Managing Director of international operations at Lagardère Active Media in early 2007 before joining Google in 2009. Carlo is French and Italian. He studied in Italy and lives in Paris with his wife Nathalie.
Irène Braam
Since August 2011, Irene Braam is Vice President Government Relations, Head of the Brussels Liaison Office of Bertelsmann AG. She joined Bertelsmann in December 2005 as Director Government Relations. Prior to joining Bertelsmann she worked consecutively for Naïve Records in Paris as Head of International, Legal and Business affairs, for the Israeli high-tech company MidbarTech where she was in charge of Business Development and for the Universal Music Group International where she was both Director Public Policy and Government Affairs and Director Legal and Business Affairs. She is a graduate in law of the University of Maastricht – the Netherlands.
Carolina Lorenzon
Responsible for International Regulatory Affairs, defines policy goals relevant to the Group’s strategic planning priorities and reports to the Board's executive committee. Prior to joining Mediaset, she was recruited by Fininvest, Mediaset's parent company, and established the Group's liaison office in Brussels. She also worked at Benetton’s external relations department in New York City and as assistant to the Public Affairs Specialist for Italy and France at the World Bank’s Paris office. She graduated in Communication / International Affairs at Pepperdine University (Los Angeles) and completed a Master’s degree in Economics and Public Policy at the Catholic University in Milan.
David Throsby
David Throsby is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Economics at Macquarie University, Sydney. He is widely known for his research and writing in the economics of art and culture. His current research areas include the economic circumstances of creative artists, valuing the arts, the economics of cultural heritage, and the relationships between economics and cultural policy. His recent books include Economics and Culture (2001) and The Economics of Cultural Policy (2010), both published by Cambridge University Press.
