Culture is future » Innovation and digital

As we enter the Rencontres d'Arles 2016, The Forum d'Avignon are pursuing e- series on cultural entrepreneurship and present a dedicated to the photo platform that allows photography enthusiasts to post their photos and participate various games as well as competitions based on the voting of other network users.

What is your project/idea/start-up?

Wipplay offers 38,000 photographs to his community of users from prestigious photo contests and gives the general audience the opportunity to acquire prints from its online store WipplayDeco. What makes Wipplay unique?

  • The undeniable artistic quality of the 3,500 images uploaded every week
  • Being a place of encounter for all the actors of the photography world, from famous names to beginners, producers, medias, students and exhibition facilities.
  • The originality of its B to B to C business model.

What is your current challenge?

After the unexpected success of Paris Photo (our team arrived with a stack of photos for the whole event and they were sold out on the very opening night!), Wipplay has launched its online store: WipplayDeco. This new and technically complex product with big marketing stakes is a challenge for our team, but in a good way: our philosophy is to make artistic photography available to everyone. We want our store to attract a wide variety of people.

For you, what does it mean to be a cultural entrepreneur?

Cultural entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs first! But we have the opportunity to work in a field undergoing economic restructuring. Public funding is shrinking and the actors of this market have to find new models. The door is wide open for innovation…
