CULTURAL START-UP OF THE WEEK: OnAir

Next-up on our online cultural entrepreneur series, the Forum d’Avignon would like to introduce: OnAir, a free collaborative platform, everybody can register his/her personal preferences in order to be alerted, by email or push notification, whenever a person of his interest is planned to be over a media for an interview.

What is your company’s objective?

During the last years, the number of media (TV channels, webradios, information websites) dramatically grew up. As a consequence, each of us misses more and more content that he would have been interested in, even though we all feel bombarded of information.

Our project is to help the meeting of the media offer and the media request. Thanks to our free collaborative platform, everybody can register his/her personal preferences in order to be alerted, by email or push notification, whenever a person of his interest is planned to be over a media for an interview. You can then follow the program in live or replay, on your computer or your mobile. We already referenced more than 8.000 known people belonging to the cultural world and to other enironments. The list is becoming longer and longer while the community of users adds new suggestions.

What challenges do you face in your development?

In order to grow our community, we suggest to the artist and to every know person to add on their website an onAir logo close to Twitter and Facebook so as they encourage their fans to follow them on onAir. Our biggest challenge is to convince them that our service will actually serve their fans engagement. Indeed, when they announce (on the traditionnal social networks) that they will be interviewed on the radio or the TV, the artists only reach a tiny part of their community, due to the low reach rate of these networks. This rate is around 13% on Twitter and 5% (only !) on Facebook. onAir guarantees a reach rate of 100% as we only announce media interviews. Because we are convinced that these media events are the ones that best increase the engagement of their fans. These announcements really deserve a dedicated channel!

What does it mean to be a cultural entrepreneur?

Culture distinguishes essentially human beings into the whole created world. The variety of talents expressed in the cultural universe is a great wealth. As we help famous persons to meet their audience, we feel entrusted with a lofty mission that has a particular savour when the people belong to the cultural world. Of course we are pleased to help a business man know when his competitor is being interviewed. But when we enable somebody to spend some time with an artist he or she really likes, in a certain way we bring to him/her a kind of happyness. The thanks that users send to each others after receiving an alert are sometimes edifying The cultural dimension of our work is the one that give the most sense to our action!
