Next-up on our online cultural entrepreneur series, the Forum d’Avignon would like to introduce: Noviscore, a set of services related to piano scores (aid player, declination in different levels...).
What is your project/idea/start-up?
Our goal is to make written music more accessible to piano players, regardless of their technical level or how well they can read music. To achieve this, our team of pianists here at Noviscore have been busy since 2008 writing sheet music specifically for the piano, paying particular attention to quality. Our concept is unique in that every piece of music has several adaptations for different skill levels. We have also developed an innovative system – a deciphering aid to help those who have difficulty reading music. We endeavour, at all times, to cater for pianists’ needs, providing sheet music ranging from easy piano to expert; we also offer versions that are specifically designed for accompaniment. This means our users can play great standards by artists like Adele, The Beatles, Sia, Birdy, Beethoven, etc., no matter their skill level. Our piano sheet music is available on our website, noviscore.com, and can be viewed and printed on purchase.
What is your current challenge?
We are working at faster expansion, especially on the international market, while choosing to remain a “cottage industry” so to speak, as this way we can control how our sheet music is produced and maintain our high standard of quality at every stage. We also need to make sure we keep up with new technology and media (tablets, smartphones, etc.), providing innovative solutions adapted to our customers’ needs.
For you, what does it mean to be a cultural entrepreneur?
For us, this means creating a connection between musical works of art and a specific audience. Our approach must be respectful towards the rights’ holders, must be an enhancer of artistic creation and must provide solutions to enable users to appreciate, understand and interpret the musical pieces in their own way.
